PlayThru's event registration platform is engineered to simplify the process of signing individual up to participate an golf outing or tournament and collect the corresponding payments.
To collect payments from registrants, PlayThru uses Stripe. Stripe is a technology company that offers a suite of payment processing tools and services. Businesses of all sizes turn to Stripe for payment processing for several compelling reasons. Stripe's platform offers a powerful blend of flexibility, security, and user-friendliness that makes it an ideal choice for handling online transactions.
To offer their features and services, both platforms require fees that are added to the registrant's total as part of the checkout process. Below is a breakdown of what these fees are and why they are charged.
At PlayThru, our primary mission is to provide a seamless, efficient, and enjoyable experience for our users. To achieve this, we continuously invest in the maintenance and enhancement of our platform.
The 3% platform fee we charge is a crucial part of this commitment. This modest fee directly supports the ongoing development and optimization of our services, ensuring that we can offer a state-of-the-art platform that meets user needs. Here's how the platform fee is utilized:
Stripe charges a fee of 2.9% + $0.30 for every transaction is processes. Here is some more information about Stripe fees.
It's important to understand with Stripe payment processing fees, they take the total amount + $0.30 and then multiply that by 2.9%. And, then, they add the $0.30 on. So the 2.9% is applied to the total with the $0.30, and then the $0.30 is tacked on. It is pretty confusing, but PlayThru will do the math for you.
For international credit cards, Stripe may charge an additional 1.5%, and if currency conversions are required, it may add an additional 1%.
Let's take an example of a single golfer registering for an event. The event charges $100 to register. When the golfer goes to checkout, they'll see a fee of $6.30 added to their total. Here is how that $6 is calculated.
First, PlayThru multiplies the subtotal of $100 by 0.03 (100 x 0.03) to get $3.
This amount is added to the subtotal, making it $103.
Then, Stripe's fees are calculated. In this case, we take ($103 + $0.30) * 2.9% + $0.30, which equals $3.2957 Rounded to the nearest hundredth, this is $3.30.
So the Total amount owed at checkout is $106.30 ($100 + $3 + $3.30).
These fees are only applied to registrations that go through PlayThru's system. We apply these fees to the participant's total rather than subtracting from the user's price because fees processed for golf events often do directly to greens fees and, in some cases, to support charitable causes. The last thing we want to do is eat into their bottom line.
If you are a participant and don't want to pay the fees, contact the event organizer directly and coordinate another form of payment.
If you are an event organizer and don't want your participants to have to pay fees, do not connect a bank account to your PlayThru event. If there is not bank account connected, PlayThru's registration tool is free to use.
Simply share your registration link with your potential attendees. From there, they can select how they want to register and enter their information.
